Maricopa Association of Government (MAG) releases annual Point-In-Time data and here’s what it tells us.

In early June 2025, Maricopa Association of Government (MAG) released the annual Point-In-Time data from the January 2025 unsheltered and sheltered count in Maricopa County. The Point-In-Time (PIT) Homelessness Count is an annual street and shelter count to determine the number of people experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County during a given point in time. Here’s what this year’s report is telling us:

  • There were 9,734 people experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County on the night of January 27, 2025. This is the highest count ever. 53% were unsheltered on the streets or other place not meant for human habitation and 47% were sheltered in an emergency shelter, transitional housing or safe haven program.

  • Homelessness increased 3% year over year

  • Unsheltered homelessness increased 22% year over year

  • Men make up a larger portion of both sheltered and unsheltered homeless populations

  • Homelessness effects all races and ethnicities

  • Adults age 25 - 64 were the predominant age group of those experiencing homelessness

  • Homelessness stretches across the entire County, not just in the core of Phoenix.
