As temperatures heat up across Arizona, it’s important to remember that those impacted by homelessness are among the most vulnerable to heat-related and heat-caused deaths. In 2024,Maricopa County reported 602 heat-related deaths, with nearly half linked back to the unhoused. Efforts are beginning across the valley to ensure that services and resources are available to all that need them during our hot summer months.
The Heat Relief Network is a voluntary partnership made up of service providers, faith-based groups, local and state government, and nonprofits, designed to provide access to water and refuge from our intense heat. Efforts began May 1st and run through September 30th with the goal of offering the following services:
☀️Hydration Stations:
Indoor & outdoor locations where water and other heat relief items are available.
☀️Cooling Centers:
Indoor, air-conditioned locations to receive water.
☀️Respite Centers:
Indoor, air-conditioned locations to receive water & rest during hours of operation.
☀️Collection/Donation Sites:
Locations for the public to donate heat relief supplies.
