HomeAid Phoenix, an affiliate of the national HomeAid America organization that focuses on improving housing resources for those experiencing homelessness, is relatively new to town. And for an organization that relies on philanthropic support and support from the home building industry, launching a presence in Phoenix shortly before a pandemic presented a bit of a challenge.
Forced to be creative, HomeAid Phoenix organized a socially-distanced charity trap-shooting tournament, held in two parts at Ben Avery Clay Target Center. And that creativity was well-received. The two-part tournament, which began in February and concluded in mid-March, sold out and generated $130,000 in charitable support.
The event was widely supported by industry sponsors, including R/S Service and Old World Granite Co., both of which offered platinum-level support.
“On any given night across the Valley, nearly 7,000 men, women, and children will experience homelessness,” Sam Leyvas, executive director of HomeAid Phoenix, said. “As members of the home building industry, it should come as no surprise that we believe everyone deserves a safe, stable and dignified place to call home.”
Funds raised from the event, which involved 64 teams and over 320 professionals from the Valley’s home building industry, will benefit HomeAid’s housing development and community outreach programs designed to connect the skills and passions from the Phoenix building community with projects that will enhance and increase housing inventory and other supports for those experiencing homelessness.
“We are grateful for the tremendous support of all of our sponsors, shooters, and volunteers” Chris Cady, HomeAid Phoenix’s board president and division president of The New Home Company, said. “HomeAid Phoenix is a direct opportunity for our industry to come together to help provide housing and other resources for those in our community experiencing homelessness, and the success of this inaugural event means we’re well on our way to making good on our mission.”
A special note of thanks to our inaugural planning committee: Chris Cady (The New Home Company), Don Murphy (Shea Homes), Rebecca Lundberg (Pulte Homes), Matt Linaman (Starlight Homes), Daniel Smith (2-10 Home Buyers Warranty) and Jennifer Cox.
